The Croft School – Director of Admissions

Boston, MA and Providence, RI

Start Date:  The position is open as early as September 2025, with flexibility on the start date for the right candidate.

This is a full-time, 12-month position that operates year-round. 

About The Croft School

The Croft School is a young high-quality independent school organization.  We currently operate three schools across Boston and Providence.  Our schools provide a rigorous, balanced, student-centered program to their students and a unique parent-oriented experience to their families, all within a tight-knit, diverse, and joyous environment.   We are considered by many families and teachers to represent an exciting new type of school that is ideal for those concerned about the area’s existing public school (inconsistent quality; driven by standardized test outcomes) and private school (elitism; unaffordable; lack of diversity; limited innovation) options.

Our first school opened in Providence in 2018.  It currently educates 200 students across Kindergarten - Grade 7, and will ultimately grow into a  K-8 school.  

Our second school opened in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston in 2020.   It currently educates 250 students across Preschool - Grade 5, and will ultimately grow into a  Preschool - Grade 6 school.

Our third school opened in the South End neighborhood of Boston in 2022.   It currently educates 100 students across Preschool - Grade 2, and will ultimately grow into a Preschool - Grade 6 school.

About The Role

The Croft School is seeking an outstanding Director of Admissions.  This team member will report to and work closely with The Croft School’s Founder and Executive Director, Scott Given, who has led and managed all aspects of admissions and enrollment work since the organization’s founding in 2017.   The Director of Admissions will serve as an integral member of our “Behind The Scenes” team, which exists to help our school leaders, teachers, and schools deliver an outstanding experience for our students and families.

The Croft School - across our three campuses - enrolls approximately 120-140 new students annually.   

The role presents a unique opportunity to play a critical role in a young, innovative, entrepreneurial organization that is increasing in complexity and scale.  Individuals considering this role should understand two critical ideas that make this role unique relative to comparable roles at other independent school organizations:

1. We have, intentionally, designed a lean administrative structure.  Whereas many independent schools have whole teams dedicated to admissions-related work, the Director of Admissions will lead, manage, and execute all aspects of the admissions and enrollment processes without a large supporting team.  This individual will, however, receive significant guidance, tutelage, and partnership from The Croft’s School Founder and will be charged with finding thoughtful ways to leverage other Croft stakeholders (team members and families) to support admissions-related work.

1. We are passionate about building deep relationships and subsequently personalizing the “Croft experience” for prospective families and students.  Historically, we have not utilized “open houses” or other large group information sessions, preferring to facilitate one-on-one and small group experiences for prospective families and students.  While we are always open to change and improvement, it is essential that we find ways to maintain processes that prioritize relationship-building and personalization with prospective families.

This role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

• Oversee the implementation of all aspects of admissions- and enrollment-related work, being ultimately responsible for meeting enrollment goals across various metrics (# of applicants, conversion rates, diversity of incoming students, etc.)
• Alongside the Founder, represent The Croft School and serve as the face of the school with prospective families
• Engage and inform prospective parents and students (via introductory meetings, via school tours, via email communication, etc.) about The Croft School and what differentiates it from other schooling options
• Coordinate systematic, efficient, and personalized handling of communication with families of applicants and other prospective students
• Partner with school leadership teams to deeply understand each school and what makes them unique 
• Manage and make improvements to our enrollment databases and related tracking systems
• Continuously consider and implement innovations and improvements to our admissions and enrollment processes and systems
• Oversee and participate in the development of admissions (and related) materials and messaging, including making significant improvements to current practices and materials
• In partnership with our school leaders and Founder, oversee the selection process of new students
• In partnership with our Founder, oversee the financial support determination process

Qualifications and Qualities

This team member needs to have two broad sets of skills: outstanding interpersonal “spark” and tremendous attention to hundreds and hundreds of details.  More specifically, here are the ideal candidate’s qualifications and qualities:

• Tremendous interpersonal and communication skills, with “top 1%” ability to quickly build close and trusting relationships with prospective families
• Outstanding attention to detail, including managing multiple and simultaneous streams of communications at any one time
• Experience working in (or otherwise be very knowledgeable about) schools in order to be able to fluently and articulately describe what makes The Croft School a unique and compelling option for many families
• Experience managing or participating in admissions-related work may be a helpful asset, but is not required
• Personal experience navigating the school selection process as a parent also may be a helpful asset, but is not required
• Deep willingness to “roll up one’s sleeves” and recognize that this work can quickly shift between (and range between) making major strategic decisions and licking hundreds of envelopes
• Experience managing projects in a fast-paced environment, including creating systems and engaging with stakeholders to achieve project outcomes
• An entrepreneurial spirit coupled with an ambitious work ethic and solutions-oriented mindset
• Empathy for others, thoughtful listening, team-orientation, and enthusiasm for collaborating with other colleagues
• Self-reflectiveness, humility, and an eagerness to continually improve one’s practice.
• A Bachelor’s Degree and current authorization to work in the United States is required.  

Compensation

The Croft School offers compensation which is competitive with other local independent and public school opportunities. The compensation for this role will be between approximately $95,000-$110,000, commensurate with experience.
